Abstract
Ag-MoS2-graphite and Ag-MoS2-graphite-Ti3SiC2 composites were prepared by hot-pressing method. The relative density, hardness, bending strength and the properties of friction and wear of the composites in both air and vacuum environment were investigated. It is found that the density and bending strength of the composite decreased after the introduction of Ti3SiC2 particulates because of the occurrence of pores at the interface between Ti3SiC2 and matrix. However, the addition of Ti3SiC2 had a negligible effect on the hardness of the composite. The friction coefficient of Ag-MoS2-graphite-Ti3SiC2 was higher than Ag-MoS2-graphite without respect of environment. This can be attributed to the three body abrasive effect of detached Ti3SiC2 particles which hampered the formation of solid lubricating layer. However, the wear resistant of the composite in air was improved obviously after incorporation of Ti3SiC2 particles due to the generation of oxides of copper.
