Effect of Impact Wear on Isothermal Quenching of Fe-0.5C-2.0Si-2.5Mn Steel

  • Multiphase impact wear tests of a Fe-0.5C-2.0Si-2.5Mn bainitic / martensitic steel were conducted using an MLD 10 dynamic load abrasive wear testing machine. The wear rate, evolution of surface microstructure and worn surface were investigated, focusing on the isothermal quenching process on the impact wear properties. The results show that wear bainite / martensite phase steel complex than the cast has improved significantly (1.4 to 2.3 times), with the next increase bainite content, wear resistance was first reduced and then stabilized. When the impact energy by 1 J increased to 4 J, material wear decreased average, its worn surface characterization shaping aggravated damage. When the impact energy of 5 J, a large amount of deformation martensite appears tissue hardening significantly, worn surface under the impact of lower energy surface is more smooth uniform, wear resistance increased, but appear strong tendency to brittle fracture.
