Tribological Properties of Glass Fabric Composites Used in Coal Mine Drill Pipe

  • Due to the short service life of the drill pipe fraction materials used in coal mine and the frequent replacement of drill pipe during drilling, three glass fabric reinforced resin matrix composites filled with silicon carbide particles (0%, 5%, 10%) were fabricated by resin impregnation process. The effect of the silicon carbide content on tribological properties, surface roughness and surface morphology of the composites were researched by using a wet friction performance tester, confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscope, respectively. The experimental results show that with the addition of silicon carbide, the instantaneous braking stability, the dynamic friction coefficient of the composites and the wear rates of the composites were reduced. The stability of dynamic friction coefficient was improved remarkably. In addition, the glass fiber fabric composite with 10% silicon carbide exhibited the lowest surface roughness and the highest wear resistance.
