Abstract
In this study, graphene-like MoS2 nanosheets were prepared by electrochemical exfoliation. The graphene-like MoS2 were characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The tribological properties of graphene-like MoS2 as an additive in ionic liquids at high vacuum were compared to that of bare ionic liquid (IL). The wear surfaces were analyzed via optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy, chemical composition of the nanofluids (IL and IL-MoS2) were investigated via X-ray photo electron spectroscopy. The results show that large-area MoS2 nanosheets can be obtained from the simple electrochemical exfoliation method. The exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets were of high quality and had an intrinsic structure. Ionic liquids with graphene-like MoS2 had low friction and low wear rate under high vacuum condition. The improved frictional properties were attributed to the transfer film of graphene-like MoS2.
